Piece and context
This text is a modern Japanese song lyric written in a compressed, emotionally intense style. It is rich for learners because it combines everyday grammar with poetic compression, omitted subjects and objects, vivid emotional vocabulary, and repeated reflection on morality, identity, weakness, instinct, and protection.
The speaker sounds torn between several forces:
- disgust at social hypocrisy
- fear of losing control
- uncertainty about what it means to live “correctly”
- determination to become strong enough not to hurt others
- a fierce desire to protect 君 (kimi)
This makes it especially useful for learners who want to move beyond textbook Japanese into dense, expressive language.
Learner notes
